Key takeaways
- Measure the front paw while the dog is standing, so the paw spreads under its weight.
- Compare length and width with the chart of the exact model — sizes are not the same across styles.
- If the paw is between two sizes, choose the larger one; front paws are usually slightly bigger than back paws.
Wrong sizes are the main reason dog shoes are returned. A clear size guide on your listing — and the right size mix in your order — saves you both returns and dead stock.
1. How to measure a paw
- Place the front paw on a sheet of paper while the dog is standing, so the paw spreads naturally.
- Mark the tip of the longest nail and the back of the main pad: that is the length.
- Mark the two widest points on the left and right: that is the width.
- Add 2–3 mm for a comfortable fit. If the result falls between two sizes, choose the larger one.
2. Why each model has its own chart
A silicone rain boot, a mesh shoe and a fleece-lined snow boot of the same size number do not have the same inside dimensions. That is why every product page on this site carries its own size chart, for example:
| Model | Size 1 | Largest size | Pet weight |
|---|---|---|---|
| XC01 rain boots | 3.5 × 3.0 cm | Size 6: 5.5 × 5.0 cm | 0.5–10 kg |
| XC10 quick-lace shoes | 4.4 × 3.5 cm | Size 8: 8.5 × 7.5 cm | 0.5–30 kg |
| XC13 snow boots | 5.0 × 4.0 cm | Size 5: 7.0 × 6.0 cm | 1.5–27.5 kg |
| XC20 LED shoes | 5.8 × 4.5 cm | Size 8: 10.5 × 7.5 cm | About 7 kg to large breeds |
3. Weight is a guide, not a size
Charts list a suggested pet weight, but a 6 kg Dachshund and a 6 kg Shiba puppy have very different paws. Tell your customers to measure first and use weight only to double-check.
4. Planning the size mix for your order
- Toy and small breeds (Chihuahua, Pomeranian, Poodle, Bichon) dominate shoe sales in cities; most of our models start at 0.5 kg.
- For a first order of small-dog styles, a curve weighted to the middle sizes (2–4) is a common starting point; adjust after the first season.
- For medium and large dogs choose models built for them: XC08 suspender boots, XC10, XC13 and XC20.
5. Help your customers get the fit right
Put the chart in centimetres and inches on your listing, show a "how to measure" photo, and tell buyers that dogs need a few short walks to get used to shoes. That one paragraph prevents many "my dog walks funny" reviews.
